# VS Code SEO MCP: Set Up zaDojo with Copilot

Source: https://zadojo.com/docs/vs-code

> Connect the zaDojo SEO and AI visibility MCP server to VS Code and GitHub Copilot agent mode with OAuth or an API key, and add the twelve SEO skills.

With zaDojo connected, GitHub Copilot's agent mode in VS Code can research keywords, read live Google results, look up competitor rankings and backlinks, audit your site, track rankings and AI answers, and read your Search Console and Google Analytics data. Because the agent can also edit your files, you can go from "what is wrong with this page" to a fix in one chat.

## What you need

* A zaDojo account. [Sign up](https://app.zadojo.com/sign-up) to get €0.10 of trial credits with no card. The plan is €10 a month with €10 of usage included.
* VS Code with GitHub Copilot, using agent mode.

## Add the MCP server

### From the command palette

1. Run **MCP: Add Server**.
2. Choose **HTTP (HTTP or Server-Sent Events)**.
3. Paste `https://app.zadojo.com/mcp` and name it `zadojo`.
4. Choose whether to save it for this workspace or for your user profile.
5. When VS Code asks, approve the zaDojo login in your browser.

### mcp.json

For one project, create `.vscode/mcp.json`. For every project, run **MCP: Open User Configuration** and edit that file instead:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "zadojo": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://app.zadojo.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

VS Code starts the server and opens the zaDojo login the first time a tool needs it.

### With an API key

Use a key for remote machines, Codespaces or anywhere the browser login fails. Create one in [Settings > API keys](https://app.zadojo.com/settings). This config asks for the key once and keeps it out of the file:

```json
{
  "inputs": [
    {
      "type": "promptString",
      "id": "zadojo-key",
      "description": "zaDojo API key",
      "password": true
    }
  ],
  "servers": {
    "zadojo": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://app.zadojo.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:zadojo-key}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Never paste the key itself into `.vscode/mcp.json`, since that file is often committed.

## Add the SEO skills

The skills give Copilot a step-by-step method for each job: SEO audit, keyword research, clustering, competitor analysis, local SEO, link prospecting, AI prompt research, AI visibility audit and reports. VS Code reads skills from `.github/skills`, `.agents/skills` and `.claude/skills`, and from the same folders under your home directory.

```bash
npx skills add zadojo/seo-geo-mcp --skill '*' --agent github-copilot
```

Add `-g` to install them for your user instead of this workspace. The [skills overview](/docs/skills) explains each one.

## Check the connection

Open Copilot Chat in agent mode and send:

```text
Use zaDojo to check my connection and list my projects.
```

The agent should call `whoami` and `list_projects`, which are free. If it answers without calling a tool, open the tools picker in the chat box and make sure the zaDojo tools are selected.

## Good first requests

* "Run the zaDojo SEO audit for my site and list the fixes I can make in this repo."
* "Pull my Search Console queries for the last 28 days and find pages with high impressions and low CTR."
* "Research keywords for the blog post I have open and suggest a title under 60 characters."
* "Check how ChatGPT answers 'best \[my category] for \[my audience]' and which sites it cites."

Search Console and Analytics reads, saved reports and plain site audits use no credits. Keyword research costs about €0.07 a search. The agent is told to ask before any planned batch over €2. The [MCP guide](/docs/mcp) has the full tool table.

## Troubleshooting

**The login window does not open.** Run **MCP: List Servers**, select zaDojo and restart it. If it still fails, use the API key method.

**Copilot cannot see the tools.** Agent mode must be on, and zaDojo's tools must be ticked in the tools picker. Some organizations disable MCP in Copilot through policy; ask your admin.
