Google Search Console dashboard: 3 free options

Three ways to see your Search Console clicks, impressions, CTR and positions on one screen, what each one shows, and which to pick. All three cost nothing.

By Denis Veisllari

You have three ways to get a Google Search Console dashboard without paying:

  • Search Console's own Performance report. Already there, with a chart over time and every filter Google offers.
  • A Looker Studio report. Free, fully customizable, and good for sharing with clients, but you build it yourself.
  • The Search Console tab in zaDojo. Ready-made lists of what to work on next: queries close to page one and queries that are new this week. It is free with a zaDojo account and needs no card.

Most people only need the first one. The other two help when you want something Search Console does not do for you: a shareable report, or a short list of pages to improve.

Option 1: Search Console's Performance report

Open Search Console, pick your property and go to Performance > Search results. The top of the report is the dashboard: total clicks, total impressions, average CTR and average position, with a chart for each over the date range you pick.

Below the chart, tabs split the same numbers by query, page, country, device, search appearance and date. You can add filters, compare two date ranges and go back up to 16 months.

It is the most complete view, because it is Google's own. Where it falls short is turning numbers into a to-do list. To find queries where you rank on page two, for example, you filter by position yourself, and the report has no built-in view of queries that are new to your site.

Option 2: a Looker Studio dashboard

Looker Studio is Google's free report builder, and it has a Search Console connector built in.

  1. Go to Looker Studio and create a blank report.
  2. Add data, choose the Search Console connector and pick your property.
  3. Choose Site Impression for site-wide totals, or URL Impression for numbers per page.
  4. Add a scorecard for each headline number (clicks, impressions, CTR, average position) and a time series chart for the trend.
  5. Add a table of queries or pages, and a date range control so readers can change the period.

Looker Studio is the right choice when the dashboard is for someone else. If what you send is a written monthly update rather than live charts, start from this SEO report template. You control the layout, the branding and the charts, and you can share a link that updates on its own. You can also put Search Console next to Google Analytics or Google Ads in one report.

The cost is setup time. Every chart is yours to build and maintain, and the report shows numbers without telling you what to do with them. Plenty of free templates exist if you would rather start from someone else's layout.

Option 3: the Search Console tab in zaDojo

zaDojo connects to Search Console with a Google sign-in and read-only access, then shows a dashboard built around what to fix next.

What you see

  • Headline numbers. Clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position, each with the change against the previous period of the same length.
  • Striking distance. Queries whose best page ranks between positions 5 and 20, sorted by impressions, with the page that ranks. These are the pages where a better title or a stronger section is most likely to pay off. You can save any of these queries to your keyword list.
  • New keywords. Searches that showed your site at least 10 times in the latest week and not once in the 28 days before. They show where Google has started testing your pages.
  • Queries and pages. The full lists, 25, 50 or 100 rows at a time.

You can switch between the last 7 days, 28 days and 3 months, filter by device and country, and filter queries or pages by text (contains or exact match). Every table exports to CSV or Google Sheets. Ranges end three days ago, because Search Console data for the most recent days is still incomplete.

The project's home page also shows a Search Console card with the last 28 days, so the headline numbers are the first thing you see when you open zaDojo.

What it costs

Nothing. Reading Search Console uses no credits, and a new zaDojo account needs no card. zaDojo's paid research tools, such as keyword research and rank tracking, draw on credits; the plan for those is €10 a month with €10 of usage included. The Search Console tab works the same with or without the plan.

Ask an AI agent instead

The same connection works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex through zaDojo's MCP server. Your agent can then answer questions such as "which pages lost clicks this month compared with last month?" without you opening a dashboard. The Search Console MCP page covers setup, AI for SEO covers what else an assistant is good at, and connecting Google Analytics lets the agent compare rankings with what visitors do on the page.

What it does not do

  • No chart over time. For the trend line, use Search Console's own report.
  • No search appearance filter and no custom ranges past 3 months.
  • Web search results only, with no image, video or Discover views.
  • It is a working view for you, not a report to share. Use Looker Studio for that.

How to read a Search Console dashboard

Whichever option you pick, the same four numbers move together, and reading them in pairs tells you more than any single one.

  • Impressions up, clicks flat. You are showing for more searches but not earning the click. Often you rank low for new queries, so position drops at the same time. Check titles and meta descriptions on the pages with the most new impressions.
  • Clicks down, position steady. Usually demand dropped (a seasonal topic) or Google added more features to the results page above you, such as an AI Overview. Compare with the same period last year before you change anything.
  • Average position worse, clicks steady. Typically you started appearing for more long-tail queries at low positions. The average falls even though nothing you already had got worse.
  • CTR low on a page that ranks in the top three. The title or description does not match what the searcher wants. Rewrite them, preview the result in the free SERP simulator, and check again in four weeks.

Questions people ask

Does Google Search Console have a dashboard?

Yes. The Performance report is a dashboard of clicks, impressions, CTR and average position with a chart over time. The Overview page also summarizes performance, indexing and experience reports.

Is Looker Studio free?

Yes. Looker Studio and its Search Console connector are free. Google sells a paid Looker Studio Pro edition with team features, which you do not need for a Search Console dashboard.

Does zaDojo need access to change anything in Search Console?

No. zaDojo asks Google for read-only access, so it can read performance data but cannot submit sitemaps, remove URLs, add users or change settings.

Can I see Search Console data for more than one site?

Yes. In Search Console and Looker Studio, switch the property. In zaDojo, each project connects one property, so you create one project per site. SEO tools for agencies covers running many client sites that way.
